The Healing Power of Art

ART HEALS THE ARTIST

During this coronavirus pandemic, my emotions have been vacillating between feeling fine (or close to fine) and feeling sad, worried, agitated, scared, to name a few.  Some days, I feel like Goldie Hawn in the movie Private Benjamin; I whine – to anyone who will listen – that I want to see my friends in person, I want to hug my kids, I want to go out for lunch!

Mostly, I feel so lucky to have my art.  My work is heavily influenced by nature, and nature is a healing force in our lives.  In my studio, I am absorbed in the process and everything else fades away.  What a great break from our current reality!  In addition, I have created some work that is particularly healing for me.  “Coming Unglued,” and “Frayed” reflect how I was feeling while working on those pieces, and I found the work to be meditative and calming.

ART HEALS THE VIEWER

It is my firm belief that art heals not only the artist, but the viewer as well.  Over the years that I have been exhibiting, so many people have commented on how peaceful they feel looking at my work.  Some have said that they would like to walk into the scenic landscapes.  These comments echo what has always been my goal – to convey a sense of peace and serenity and for the viewer of my art to be able to let go of the daily stresses and step into that moment, to feel connected with the art and with nature.

So I welcome you to enjoy a walk through these online galleries.  Feel free to email or call with any questions and comments.

FromHere To Serenity

I kept a blog from 2009 to 2012 in which I shared what I had been teaching in corporate stress management trainings.  I also worked as a therapist helping people cope with anxiety; in fact, I was the resident expert on coping with anxiety!  Now I love to connect my calming fiber art landscapes with my favorite stress management tools.

To that end, I will be posting some of the coping tools on this website blog.  Whether you followed me before or are newly hoping for some help with finding peace and serenity, you might gain some helpful hints.  Stress and anxiety can be debilitating OR can be an opportunity for change and growth.  It’s a great time to learn to Relex, Reframe negative beliefs and Refocus on a more peaceful and serene life.  And I will show you how!
