In 1987, pregnant and not able to find a crib quilt to my liking, I decided to make my own. 7th grade home ec finally came in handy! Very quickly tiring of making other people’s patterns, I started experimenting and found that the tactile qualities of fabric make it ideal for the nature-based themes I like to create.

My Creative Process starts with white fabric. I dye or paint the fabric and apply multiple layers of other surface design elements including screen printing, stenciling and mono-printing – to name just a few. A pair of sandals with a wonderfully textured sole became an often-used stamp!
The handmade fabrics go to my design wall. Inspiration may come from the fabric itself or from a photo taken near home or while traveling. And the artwork evolves. My giant sequoia landscape, Gods of the Forest, required a ladder in my studio to work at the top of the design wall which I had extended almost to the ceiling.
The final design element is free-motion machine stitching and/or hand stitching. The fiber art piece is completed with finished edges, stitched signature, label on the back and a sleeve for hanging.
Art that Heals is ready for your home.
