My URBAN LANDSCAPES reference the many layers of life. Cracks in the bark of a tree, chipping and peeling paint, weathering of a brick, rock or stone wall... these things allow us to see the effects of aging, the layers of meaning in passing time. These pieces are about nature's cycles of growth and decay and encourage the viewer to appreciate imperfect or muted beauty, beauty that can come only with the passing of time.

"When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful." Billie Mobayed

Sea Fans available for sale
During a trip to Aruba, I found hundreds of dead sea fans washed up on shore. In spite of this evidence of dying reefs, the brown and brittle sea fans are still undeniably beautiful! It is illegal to bring any plant life, even dead, into the US, so I felt a need to create my own sculptural sea fans, showing the brilliant colors of these stunning plants in still-thriving reefs.
